When winter turns to spring, many cat owners realize that they could use a really good cat brush. This is because this is the time of year that cat’s tend to lose their winter coat and shed all over the place! Although cat’s are great at grooming, they just cannot deal with the amount of hair they will lose. Using a good cat brush can make this time of year a lot cleaner!
There are lots of different kinds of cat brushes out there and they range from a couple dollars to a couple hundred dollars! Some have bristles, similar to your hair brush, others are made from rubber, and still others are made from metal.
You should get in the habit of brushing your cat once or twice a week, depending on your cat’s fur. This shouldn’t be too hard, most cats love to be brushed. It feels like a massage to them.
I have tried so many brushes, and although my cat adores every one of them (massage me again please??), my favorite for crazy hair removal and ease of use has to be the Furminator. I was put off by the higher price at first, but I was so frustrated with the cat’s hair being everywhere that I ordered it. The minute it came I approached Winnie and began brushing him. He loved it! He rubbed up and down on the Furminator (making it smell like hih, of course). I got the hugest clump of hair off of him! I figured, okay, I’l brush him again in a couple of days. Winnie hopped on my lap about two hours later beggin to be brushed. I think I brushed him four times that day! Now he comes to me about every other day, and I always get a ton of hair from him!
The Furminator is a cat brush which has metal tines which brush out the hair and massage the kitty at the same time. It also has an ergonomic handle so your hand doesn’t hurt after your cat has made you brush him five time in one day. It has a release mechanism, to release the hair, but since my cat has short hair, I haven’t needed to use it.
The Furminator comes in two sizes, one for large cats (10+ pounds) and one for small cats (below 10 pounds). Then you have the option of buying one for long haired cats or for short hair cats.
